About Shaun Murray
Shaun Murray was born on April 28, 1976, in Mission Viejo, California, and he started water skiing when he was just eight years old. In 1988, Shaun moved with his family to Lake St. Louis, Missouri, honing his skills as a member of the Lake St. Louis Water Ski Club, where he has been participating ever since. As soon as he graduated high school, Shaun moved to Florida where he competed for the Florida Southern College water ski team and taught water skiing at the Benzel Ski School. Shaun continued to teach water skiing for several years, helping others to learn and enjoy the sport.
Inventor of Wakeboarding Tricks
During the course of his incredible wakeboarding career, he has made many innovations and accomplished many things, including winning numerous titles on the pro tour and world championships. It is believed that Murray invented a number of wakeboard tricks, including the Bel Air, the Tweety Bird, the Square Raley, the Crook, the Crow 5, the heelside frontside, and more. He promoted his own “Backyard Tour” with pro rider and friend Gerry Nunn; he has been featured in many wakeboard movies, magazines, and television pieces; he created his own wakeboard instructional series entitled “Detention;” he is the star of his own video game, Wakeboarding Unleashed; and he is a pro rider.

Nothing Can Stop a Legend
Murray dislocated his knee while riding his bike in the summer of 2004. As a result, he tore his ACL, PCL, and MCL. In the aftermath of his reconstructive surgery, he was told that he may not be able to ride again. It wasn’t long before he was back on the bike just a few months later. It was through his assistance that signature products such as boats, wakeboards, life jackets, wet suits, clothing lines, and swimwear could be developed. Murray holds the distinction of being the first wakeboarder to land a 900 (Regular Heelside) in a competition, and he is the only wakeboarder to have ever held the titles of World, Pro Tour, and National Champion at the same time.
